From a teenage Nirvana obsession in rural Tipperary to performances at festivals as part of a glitzy all-girl band, Katy Walsh has been immersed in music for as long as she can remember. All her influences, from the grunge of her youth to the reggae, soul and pop she grew to love later, are brought together in Mooki.
Katy was gigging all over her native Ireland at the age of 15, and has not stopped playing since. She honed her craft during stints in Cork and Vancouver and is now bringing the soulful, groove-filled music of Mooki to the clubs and festivals of Glasgow.
From the Stevie Wonder-like funky squiggles of Runaway Train to the sun-drenched reggae of She's My Local and Aul' Bombay, Mooki beg, borrow and steal fragments and snippets from music's past to create their own patchwork musical future that is bright, dynamic and inventive. Connecting all the disparate influences are the soaring melodic strands of Walsh's voice: rich yet delicate, fragile yet powerful. The result is raw, funky and irresistible.
